An award-winning creative, Alex Hess has been recognized by industry leaders including the American Advertising Federation, Communication Arts, and beyond. His work has connected hundreds of thousands of consumers across a specturm of brands and industries, powered by a multidimensional approach that blends strategy, storytelling, and visual precision.

Whether developing breakthrough campaigns, telling stories through behind a lens, or painting with the subtlety of a master, Alex brings a creative perspective that reveals a brand’s fullest potential and boldest voice. He sees creativity as a bridge, something that connects us all in both universal and uniquely personal ways. In a world saturated with noise, he is committed to making work that lasts and resonates long after the spotlight has moved on.

Based in Pittsburgh and previously in Dallas, Alex leads creative strategy and direction with a focus on brand development, conceptual thinking, and visual storytelling. He is deeply involved in the creative process at every level, leading teams, crafting big-picture ideas, and refining the smallest details to deliver cohesive, compelling, and lasting work.

His experience across both agency and in-house environments equips him to navigate the full lifecycle of an idea strategically, creatively, and operationally. He fosters collaboration across strategic communications, media, PR, and analytics to produce integrated work that drives impact and builds meaningful connections.

As an adjunct professor of graphic design, Alex mentors emerging talent while continuing to sharpen his own voice as a creative leader. These dual perspectives as educator and practitioner inform his ability to lead with clarity, context, and care.

Alex graduated with high honors from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, receiving Best Portfolio and Employer’s Choice awards. There, he explored a wide range of mediums and refined his visual language. Influenced by artists like Botticelli, Sargent, and Klimt, he developed a strong foundation in form, perspective, and storytelling. His work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and solo shows, and he continues to paint professionally.

He currently serves as AVP, Creative Director at Gatesman, based in Pittsburgh and Chicago.
